Republic Wireless Has Two New Devices You Need to Check Out

Earlier today, Republic Wireless announced two new devices designed at minimizing digital addiction. Together, these two devices help keep a family stay connected to each other without the need of smartphones.

Sounds impossible, right? But these two devices are actually worth checking out.

First, there’s Relay. You can think of it as a high-tech walkie-talkie intended for use between parents and their young children. The device makes use of Wi-Fi and LTE service in order to stay in touch with their kids. In addition to this, the device can help parents keep track of their child’s location. Google Assistant is available to help set reminders and for asking questions.

Relay is perhaps one of the coolest devices ever to have been made in this generation. It’s a small device that easily fits in your pocket. The material is rugged and water-resistant so it can keep up with your child’s play time. With a battery strong enough to last throughout the day, it can also store 10 hours of music before running out of storage space.

It’s not a smartphone in the very sense of the word but it is a pretty smart device. The Sprint and T-Mobile MVNO has embedded safety features onto Relay so parents can set up channels with approved contacts on the device. There’s also no phone number involved– at all. And when a child meets a new friend who also has Relay, they can tap the device with their friend’s device so they can create a new channel. All thanks to its built-in NFC.

According to the MVNO, Relay will start shipping in 2018 with a price of $ 150 for two Relays. If you opt for three devices, you can get it for $ 200. Each device will then come with a $ 7 monthly service. The device also comes in various colors so there’s an option to choose a color you like. When the device shops, the MVNO will add in a few games and activities, like a virtual whoopee cushion.

    Anywhere HQ

The other device Republic Wireless unveiled today is Anywhere HQ, a voice-activated speaker phone that’s a cross between a standard home phone and a smart speaker. Add in Google Assistant to that mix and voila, you’ve got Anywhere HQ. Since the device comes with LTE connectivity, you can use it anywhere a cellular signal is present.

Because of its nature, Anywhere HQ is compatible with landline and cellular service. If you already have a landline, you can port your number to Anywhere HQ so you can start using this device wherever you go. And if you only have a cellphone, you can opt to forward your calls to the device. An advantage in doing this is that you get better call quality since calls are made over Wi-Fi connection.

Unlike Relay, which is already ready to start shipping next year, Anywhere HQ is still set to undergo tests. After the testing stage is complete, it will be ready for shipping later in 2018. Along with this, Republic Wireless has not yet disclosed pricing and monthly service details for this device.

In the meantime, you can check out the website to learn more about this device.

Relay looks promising, especially for parents with young children. Are you excited for these devices?
