Nokia 6: Next to Get Android Oreo Beta Update

Last month, Nokia 8 users were excited to find out that HMD Global had already released a stable Android Oreo update to their devices.

After making the update available on its flagship smartphone, the phone manufacturer promised that its budget lineup is slated to receive the update next. Proving true to its word, Nokia 5 users can already test an early version of the Oreo update on their device starting today.

So which Nokia model is set to be the next Android Oreo beta adapter? All roads lead to the Amazon Prime Exclusive Nokia 6, of course. It does help that Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global Chief Product Officer, tweeted about the status of the Nokia 6 Oreo beta update and said that it was “coming soon.”  The announcement was made alongside the reveal that the Android Oreo beta is now available for the Nokia 5.

If you’re looking forward to when the update will be available for the Nokia 6, you can sign up for the beta labs program by entering your device details on the website. Once your device has successfully been enrolled, you’ll receive the beta build via an over the air (OTA) update once they become available. In turn, you can give your own feedback to the HMD team.

Once your device gets the Android Oreo beta update, you’ll be able to enjoy these features:

    • More cartoonish emojis
    • Picture-in-Picture (PIP)
    • More refined app shortcuts and widgets
    • New settings menu
    • Smart text select
    • Google Play Protect
    • Autoenable Wi-Fi
    • New battery settings
    • Night Light mode
    • App icon shape customization
    • and many more
If you decide that you no longer wish to get beta updates, you can simple roll back your device from the beta program. This will put you back to the stable channel.
Since the beta program for the Nokia 8 lasted a whole month, it could be the same duration for the Nokia 5. If this proves to be the case, the Nokia 6 Android Oreo beta program could be arriving in January. Maybe when it has passed the testing phase, the next device HMD Global enters is the Nokia 2?
    We’re being hopeful.
