After over a month of its release, a SIM-free version of the iPhone X is now available. Starting today, you can now get an unlocked version of the iPhone X directly from Apple’s website.
When you open the website, you will see five different options upon picking out an iPhone X variant that you want to buy. Your options include a model compatible with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and an unlocked version.
So what does a SIM-free iPhone X model mean?
Well, it’s basically the same model and specs. The only difference with this variant is that it can readily be used with a carrier of your preference. This means you can choose a CDMA or GSM carrier of your preference as long as it provides service for iPhone.
Apple has specified that all SIM-free iPhone X devices ordered today will be shipped by December 12th. But even if you decide to get an iPhone X along with a carrier, the delivery date will still be the same.
When Apple first accepted iPhone X pre-orders back in October, customers were made to pick out a device with an AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint SIM even though the device is listed as unlocked. By the time they launched, iPhone X purchases needed carrier pre-activation. This requirement, however, was lifted by mid-November.
While it’s been possible to have a SIM-free unlocked device by ordering a Verizon model, it’s nice to see that Apple is finally offering an official SIM-free version so you won’t have to end up with an unwanted SIM card.
Pricing for the SIM-free and unlocked iPhone X starts at $ 999 for the 64GB variant and $ 1,149 for the 256GB variant, the.same pricing structure for an iPhone X with a SIM card.
If you’re the type of person who regularly travels internationally or likes to switch between carriers, the SIM-free unlocked iPhone X model is the best choice for you. This way, you won’t have to get locked into a carrier financing program.
